Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre

This is Verne Reimer & Jeff Penner Experience while at Stantec Architects.

As a competition response, this Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre situates itself at the convergence of the ravine and escarpment in Morden, Manitoba. This 35,000 sf facility is designed to relate to the landscape as it incorporates the ideas of time and transformation.

The space would accommodate exhibits, digital movie theatre, lab areas, and educational learning opportunities in addition to a prominent location for Bruce – the 45 foot long mosasaur which is the museum collection’s star attraction. The surrounding landscape is an ideal location for interpretive trails and other reflective spaces.

Sustainable technologies to be included in this proposal include geo-thermal heating, a cooling pond, solar panels, and potentially a wind turbine.
